fasting puts me in awesome company

Here are some great quotations on fasting. It seems many of the great names in history found power in fasting – and said so quite publicly and clearly.

Thinking about it, only recently did fasting fall into disfavor… supplanted by “fast food” … which, for nutritional value is far worse than nothing. The hunter-gatherer life our bodies are designed around fasted every time their local food source became scarce. As a regular thing, it is as natural as sunrise.

A little starvation can really do more for the average sick man than can the best medicines and the best doctors.
Mark Twain

The best of all medicines are resting and fasting.
Benjamin Franklin

Fasting gives you confidence to know that your spirit can master appetite . . . and helps to protect against later uncontrolled cravings and gnawing habits.
Russell M. Nelson

The philosophy of fasting calls upon us to know ourselves, to master ourselves, and to discipline ourselves the better to free ourselves. To fast is to identify our dependencies, and free ourselves from them.
Tariq Ramadan

Fasting is the first principle of medicine; fast and see the strength of the spirit reveal itself.

Therapeutic fasting is not a mystical or magical cure. It works because the body has within it the capacity to heal when the obstacles to healing are removed. Health is the normal state. Most chronic disease is the inevitable consequence of living a life-style that places disease-causing stressors on the human organism. Fasting gives the body an interlude without those stressors so that it can speedily repair or accomplish healing that could not otherwise occur in the feeding state.
Joel Fuhrman

Everyone has a doctor in him or her; we just have to help it in its work. The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well. Our food should be our medicine. Our medicine should be our food. But to eat when you are sick, is to feed your sickness.

Fasting is a medicine.
Saint John Chrysostom

Fasting cures diseases, dries up bodily humors, puts demons to flight, gets rid of impure thoughts, makes the mind clearer and the heart purer, the body sanctified, and raises man to the throne of God.

Fasting lowers your blood pressure and can lower your cholesterol.
Jentezen Franklin

There is an unseen sweetness in the stomach’s emptiness. We are lutes. When the sound box is filled, no music can come forth. When the brain and the belly burn from fasting, every moment a new song rises out of the fire. The mists clear, and a new vitality makes you spring up the steps before you.

I fast for greater physical and mental efficiency

Fasting and natural diet, though essentially unknown as a therapy, should be the first treatment when someone discovers that he or she has a medical problem.
Joel Fuhrman

Doc Og

I have completed 14 days of fasting … eating nothing yet in 2024. There is another part of this healing regimen that I fall down on: I keep forgetting to rest. Not that I am high energy, exercising or working a whole bunch, but I keep on going, ignoring those times when my body would be quite happy in the recliner listening to music.

I am trying to do better. This fast has to go on until I cannot find major signs of my body working on disease/invader fighting. I certainly do not want to spend any longer than necessary between meals, so I darn-well better ramp up the resting portion of this program.

I am healed when Doc Og says so.
