Happy Pi Day

To the mathematically-oriented, March 14th, or 3.14 as it is often written is a special day celebrating the circle and math therof. The number Pi is key in geometry as the ratio of the diameter to the circumference of circles or the radius squared to the area inside of the circle.

Pi fascinates some mathematicians as it goes on and on without ever repeating any pattern. Most round it off to 3.14 for use in simple equations, a little more precise is 3.1416, but to go on a bit farther it is 3.141592653589793… well, you get the idea.

Needless to say, March 14th of 2016 was very popular with math geeks. Written as 3.14.16, it was the best Pi Day of a century.

The pictures I used for this post are from the Instructables web site searching on the word “Pi”.
