The Longhairs

Guys with long hair.
Not the USofA cultural norm.

That’s about all there is on the subject for certain.
Everything else you think and say is just that…
thoughts and words.

What do you KNOW about guys with long hair?

I’ll help you out a bit here. You know they are not slaves to convention. You know they are not overly concerned about what the majority thinks … or says.

In my case, I am far less concerned about my physical appearance than average… or yours, for that matter. I feel and live inside, not outside. I appreciate others not for how they look, but for who they are. Reversing that, in my view, is shallow – and not very useful.

I wrote and published about my hair growth previously. I won’t redo those, but they are here if you are curious:
hair – November 8, 2013
hair magic – March 28th, 2014

I have now been three years without a haircut.
Is it convenient? Often not.
Does it connect me with the cosmos? I have no idea.
Does it look good? That depends entirely on who is judging.
I suppose that last goes right back to my appreciating people for who they are rather than how they look.

Interestingly, I have been in practical pistol matches with 30 or so shooters, including a few guys with long hair. While I have not noticed being judged for my pony tail, I was befriended quicker and easier than usual by my fellow longhairs. We could tell at a glance several things about each other… see the preceding paragraphs.

Meanwhile, back to the hair that nature sprouts vigorously from the tops of most human heads…

The Longhairs website is a grand exploration of men ignoring the cropped-top cultural norm. They research and share information for the mane men community. They also sell products tested, developed and useful to men with longer-than-average hair.

This morning I was at their website purchasing my second batch of hair ties for men and found the following article in their blog:

Long Hair in Native American Culture

Why grow long hair?
Their beliefs around long hair, as many of their beliefs, are tied to the earth and nature. The long hair has symbolic significance tying them to mother earth whose hair is long grasses. Many Native Americans believe their hair is a physical manifestation of the growth of the spirit, and some say it allows for extrasensory perception, and connection to all things.
