rise above minimum wage

How to Escape the Purgatory of Minimum Wage/Part-Time Jobs In the age of automation, what’s scarce are problem-solving skills. Readers responded positively to my recent essay on the emerging economy and jobs:A Teachable Moment: to the Young Person Who Complained About Her Job/Pay at Yelp and Was Promptly Fired. Many young people are stuck in the purgatory of minimum wage and/or part-time jobs: that raises the question: how do you get out of minimum-wage purgatory? The conventional answer is, “get another college degree.” Perhaps this once had some value, but this now yields rapidly diminishing returns due to supply and demand: everyone else seeking an escape from low-wage/part-time purgatory is pursuing the same strategy, so there is an oversupply of […]

Trump: A Manchurian Candidate?

By Daily Bell Staff Trump’s rise disturbs world media … As the U.S. woke up Wednesday to the news that Donald Trump had triumphed in a majority of the states up for grabs in the Super Tuesday contests, the wider world also woke up to the prospect of a man whom some consider a demagogue occupying the world’s most powerful political office … – Financial Express The mainstream media is filled with howls about Donald Trump. Even the most positive articles about him tend to catalogue his political achievements within a larger context of GOP consternation and evident fury. Here is our question, as close observers of the mainstream media: Is it propaganda of a sort? Is the evident antipathy […]

real presidential debate

Forget the Circus, a real debate is coming to town … nation-wide, that is. The Libertarian Party, often known as “The Party of Principle” is having a debate among their leading candidates for the US Presidential race broadcast nation-wide on television. We are not talking high-rolling showboats, but philosophically based candidates who are well-read and knowledgeable about cultural, economic and political sciences. The debate will be hosted by John Stossel and aired on his weekly show. April 1st, Fox Business Channel, John Stossel show, 6:00pm Mountain time. That will show on Dish network channel 206 and on Direct TV channel 359 I found the schedule from this website: http://www.locatetv.com/person/john-stossel/245383/schedule My ignorance regarding what is on television is nearly complete, but […]

gotta have a truck … but

I have to have a truck. They haul stuff. And I like to do stuff. … match made in heaven. But I’ve been a car, racer, sports car guy for longer than you have been alive. I have to have something that scratches that itch. The wimmen in my life don’t like me running about on motorcycles. I have to admit that I run near the edge, and am much more skillful at the edge with cars than I am with bikes. Granted, my skills once were interchangeable, but they are not now, and regaining the bike talent carries certain risk.. Thus, given that I WILL run near the edge, it is a whole lot smarter to do it on […]

new old axe

I found a prize vintage trombone 2 1/2 years ago. It was a 1958 Conn 6H in an Austin, Texas Salvation Army store. Looking ugly and selling on e-bay for cheap, I took a chance. Even if I had to pay for a full restoration, it would still be below market value for a good one. The lacquer was flaked off as much as on, the slide had a lot of drag and some visible wear in the plating. It would have responded quite well with a round trip to one of the trombone restoration shops in the USofA. I was not, am not hugely concerned about the cosmetics, though I do appreciate nice looking horns. But the slide […]

gun control

Gun control is hitting your target. There is no simpler, more concise way to say it. Those who pass laws, or those who refuse to repeal laws restricting possession and use of self-defense weapons are either not thinking clearly or have evil intent. Laws against killing people do not stop knife attacks, bomb attacks, acid attacks, brutality against women, baseball bat attacks, gang violence against innocents, or any other violent crimes. Restraining orders are flimsy pieces of paper. Violent criminals are stopped by superior force. Period. Armed citizens prevent violence thousands of times every year. Most of the times without firing a shot. In a state as liberal towards personal freedoms and individual liberty as Montana, one as rich in […]

Snowden revelation on global warming

from TheLastGreatStand.com UPDATE: Edward Snowden is not the only person coming out this week saying global warming was a hoax. So istheNational Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Let me begin by saying that unless you’ve taken the time to look into Edward Snowden, then he’s probably not who you think he is. He’s certainly not the low level data entry schmuck the media made him out to be when he spilled many of the NSA’s secrets and then had to flee the country back in 2013. The public was led to believe that Snowden was little more than the guy from IT that you call when the printer toner runs out, but being a sneaky little bastard, he managed to sneak […]

because they can

Twice a year the intrusive government effortlessly pokes me with a sharp stick. If someone wants to get up earlier in the morning, then please do. If you want to go to work earlier in the day, for goodness sakes, go to work earlier. Don’t drag me into your wishes. Time zones make sense. If we all used sundials where high noon is high noon, we couldn’t synchronize clock-based events from east to west. Until 1883, that is how it was. Localities each had their own time standard based on the sun. Sunrise, sunset and daylight were set by the sun. It was a scheduling nightmare for the railroads, however. So they divided North America into four time zones that […]

Profanity is a weak vocabulary trying to express itself forcefully – Ted Dunlap My wife started to watch the movie “Wolf Of Wall Street” within earshot of me. ICK! After less than five minutes in the incessant cesspool of profanity, she turned it off. Hollywood has led our society away from “complicated” language into a simple world where a handful of swear words are used to mean anything and nothing; where forming articulate sentences is a thing of the past. Foul language that used to be the mark of the lowest classes in male-only menial-labor pools has crept into all social strata. This brings me to my daily liberty quote from C. S. Lewis that was in this morning’s mail. […]

powerless

The preppers aren’t the only ones worried anymore about a debilitating attack on the U.S. power grid. ABC News anchor Ted Koppel wrote a book on it. I have published 46 articles and essays here on preparing. See the selection here: PREPARING. This is a big part of what many of us consider to be worth preparing for. The ramifications of our country without electricity are awesome … and very definitely not in a positive sense of that word. Ted Koppel describes an amazingly powerful, but simple to execute way to take out The Grid – the electrical distribution system for our entire country. An EMP (electro magnetic pulse) via a weapon that could be in the hands of a […]

conundrums

Free people are not equal. Equal people are not free. A gun is like a parachute. If you need one, and don’t have one, you’ll probably never need one again. America is capitalist and greedy – yet half of the population is subsidized. Half of the population is subsidized – yet they think they are victims. They think they are victims – yet their representatives run the government. Their representatives run the government – yet the poor keep getting poorer. The poor keep getting poorer – yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about. They have things that people in other countries only dream about – yet they want America to be more like those other […]

ragtime

In February I finally got around to checking out the monthly gathering of Bitterroot’s Ragtime Society. It looked good and they encouraged me to bring my horn next time. March 5th was next time. I brought my horn. Mom and Missy also came along … my fan club … hadda make sure somebody liked the noises I made. Ragtime is not familiar territory to me. Tunes I have experience with are Dixieland, Swing, Jazz, Big Band and the like. But, Hey, these people let me play trombone! 🙂 I HOPED to play along in a quarter of the music, enjoy it all and end up with some sheet music to play with between now and the next meeting. I was […]

selected quotations

You may have noticed in the right sidebar a rotating series of quotes. I uploaded a large collection of those I have found to be particularly significant. Most have come to my e-mail box via my signing up at liberty Tree for a daily trio. While they aren’t all striking, many are. Those I save and share here. The set below are most effective together. They came days apart, but relate to each other … and to us. ————— “A family member asked my wife, “Aren’t you concerned about his (our son’s) socialization with other kids?” My wife gave this response: “Go to your local middle school, junior high, or high school, walk down the hallways, and tell me which […]

Chemtrail Planes Caught in Action

Warn Population by Writing “Last Chance” Sky High Commercial pilots are now gathering actual chemtrail operation evidence and some chemtrail pilots are writing their message up in the sky to warn the public to wake up now, or suffer the grave consequences later on. This is in addition to several attempts to inform the public of what’s going on in our open, once blue, skies today. Chemtrail Pilot Blows the Lid Off OPERATION INDIGO SKYFOLD Dr. Herndon Sustains Coal Fly Ash-Chemtrail Findings, Condemns Censorship 1966 NASA Document Reveals Goal of Engineered “Climate Modification” The first video shows actual footage of chemtrail plane spraying chemicals of unknown composition. The second video has been taken to show that chemtrail operations are […]
