Home remedies for a stuffy nose and inflamed sinuses

Congestion is a common term used for troubled nasal congestion, which if not treated in early stages will result with sinus problems, and even blockage of the nose and several serious problems. The reasons for the congestion can be viruses, increased nasal membrane, allergic reactions and a few others which, if not treated in the earliest stage will certainly be very unpleasant for any individual. Here are some tips on how to deal with this phenomenon, common for this time of year.

Boost your immune system with vitamins and herbs

In some studies it has been proved that vitamin C reduces the duration of the common cold and reduces the symptoms- however, it is not directly affect the congestion. Well, if you suffer from this problem, taking extra vitamin C can help quickly to beat the cold. But if your nasal congestion is associated with allergies, vitamin C is not going to help.

Drink hot drinks

Warm fluids will relieve the nasal congestion, prevent dehydration and soothe the discomfort of inflamed membrane that connects your nose and throat. These include natural teas such as chamomile, mint or thyme, and hot chicken soup.

Take regular inhalation

The struggle with the cold or flu can lead to dehydration; so many people use vaporizers or air humidifiers to loosen congestion. The best solution is frequent inhalation “spiced” with mild herbs that help relax mucus in the nose.

Garlic

Garlic acts as a natural anti-viral agent that is used in the treatment of viral infections. It contains pungent taste that release secretion and helps to squeeze the nasal passages and the breathing is more convenient. It also helps boost the immune system when consumed regularly. Spicy foods, ginger, onion and pepper can help too.

Apple cider vinegar

The apple cider vinegar helps in cleaning the congestion due to thinning of mucus and quickly drains the sinuses, if it is taken pure without additives.

Oil of eucalyptus

Eucalyptus oil is one of the most effective home remedies for relieving congestion. Place a few drops of essential oil of eucalyptus on a gauze or small piece of cloth and inhale his scent. Also, you can put a little on your pillow in order to breathe easier during sleep.

Honey

Consuming honey (2 teaspoons) regularly can greatly help congestion. For better results you should consume 2-3 teaspoons of honey in warm water or warm milk.

Lemon

The mixture prepared from lemon juice (2 tsp.) pepper (1/4 tsp.) and little salt may help in the treatment of the symptoms of a stuffy nose.
