drought 7 x 4Typical responses to this map are:
“Oh my gosh, the jet ski season is going to be short this year!”
“Crap! There goes the fishing season.”
“Gee, I gotta get my boating in early.”

One of the reasons the Darby Dog Derby sled dog races last weekend drew so many teams from all over the Northwest was lack of snow at all the other races in the region.
Lack of snow
= lack of moisture
= shortage of spring runoff
= no good news.

But where does my head go first thing when I consider a short precipitation year?

If you think the watering down of our currency by the Fed has hit your shopping cart, imagine what their continued dumping of the dollar does when combined with a severe shortage of agricultural product.

That big ugly red blotch on the left side of the map – that state nobody east of there loves … ah, well, their drought problems will be your problems too. California accounted for 15 percent of national receipts for crops and 7.1 percent for livestock products, its agriculture includes more than 400 commodities; nearly half of US-grown fruits, nuts and vegetables.

You might wanna get some groceries before the jet-skier-set gets the 2014 supply and demand message.
