news nibbles

I am putting together a handful of news stories that do not warrant their own page here. First is an interesting story of major predators becoming prey. Making it into the financial top 1% is typically a measure of one’s ruthlessness more than any other single attribute. Genius is rarely involved. The Theranos scheme clearly demonstrates that. Attending an institution like Stanford University is not an option for the lower classes like middle and below. The Elizabeth Holmes story starts with her dropping out of her second year there. While the one-percenters might otherwise respect and embrace her crafty immorality, it probably doesn’t go well that she preyed on them rather than the lower 99%-ers. But gol-dang she put on […]

news soup

I am cleaning up my collection of links to articles that merited further reading, research and/or sharing. My link list, and my ToDo list were both getting too long. Thus you get to see what has been in my peripheral vision for days, or weeks … all in the raw … and in no particular order. Aha. I am sharing my disorder that I may have more clarity. Why I Quit TeachingBy David Solway … For one thing, administration had come to deal less with academic issues and more with rules of conduct and punitive codes of behavior, as if it were a policing body rather than an arm of the teaching profession… … For another, colleagues were increasingly buying […]

testing supremes

. I’m just a sittin’ an’a rockin’ … watching the show. There isn’t a decision here. Can some people order others around? In a free society, that is. The Supreme Court appeared divided down the middle Tuesday over a Colorado baker’s refusal to design a wedding cake for a same-sex couple, the latest test in the continuing legal battle between gay rights and religious expression. Do people have a right to do or not do anything? Are the black-robed senior citizens competent or not? Are they relevant to the issue? Can any words they utter make wrong be right? Could somebody walk into my bakery and successfully get me to decorate a cake with hatred? Nope. Could a handful […]

a large supreme, hold the anchovies

The USofA Supreme Court has ruled that concealed weapon carry licenses in any one state are valid in every other state AND that all states must issue them like the good states do. This is really good news as this country has been a hodge-podge of Luddite legislation regarding self-defense tools. While they didn’t use those words exactly, they did say essentially the same thing. Their ruling, for those who attribute supreme super powers to such things, actually says a marriage license in one state is valid in another – like state issued driver’s licenses and such. Which, obviously, would include CCWs. Of course in the feely-huggy socialist people’s paradise, warm acceptance of gay rights is just about the opposite […]

what the right to a jury means

EDITORIAL The Jury as Liberty’s Shield By Shane Smith – September 04, 2015 It’s no secret that government absolutely loathes juries. They are an obstacle, an encumbrance to greater power, and government sidesteps the jury trial any chance it gets. But a jury trial is our right as American citizens, for now, and government has to deal with it in most instances. So government settles for the next best thing: packing the jury box with the most gullible saps our society has on offer and hoping the State’s slick lawyers and judges can cajole the jurors into delivering the desired verdict. The government’s beau ideal of a juror is a sap, a sheep, a serf who knows nothing of […]

4 simple questions

While the information below is still a solid, real part of true history, the links that were included and referenced in it have been removed from the World Wide Web, as far as I can tell. You can try them. They didn’t work from my computer. The cold-case posse charged by Arizona’s Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio investigation found the same things and a lot more. Do a web search on that phrase. There is A TON of supporting evidence. On to the four questions … 1. Back in 1961 people of color were called ‘Negroes’. So how can the Obama ‘birth certificate’ state he is African-American” when the term wasn’t even used at that time? 2. The birth certificate […]

heavily armed sore losers

Casinos are big business, very lucrative and with little investment in things like manufacturing capability or raw materials. Even the little pocket casinos that litter the main roads make big money from a small handful of customers. That’s all okay. With freedom comes responsibility. Each of us is at liberty to utilize or discard our resources any way we want. We trade things we value more for things we value less. Lack of choice is for children who hopefully grow into taking full responsibility for their lives, liberties and properties. We call that “growing up”. In this same free world, the casinos are at liberty to attract, entice, reward and get money from their clientèle in whatever way they feel […]

DWT

Driving While Thoughtless is a crime against anyone inconvenienced, injured or killed. Almost by definition, the best and brightest in our society do not make it to political office at state or national levels. Unsurprisingly, they don’t grok the whole problem. Instead they attempt solve one small part of it, then watch in puzzlement while their new legislation fails to achieve the desired results. People who grossly overestimate their ability to multi-task including driving as one of those tasks has long been a peeve of mine. They are universally WRONG. You know it too. You get all frosted at the driver who is weaving, speeding, slowing, stopping inappropriately, failing to respect the traffic signal (red or green), backing up a […]

corrupt judges

FISA court judges buying Verizon stock as they approve NSA surveillance Judges who serve on the FISA court, approving the government’s collection of phone metadata, have bought Verizon stock in the last year. Although the justices have financial involvement in the company, it is not considered a conflict of interest. Under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), the National Security Agency and other members of the country’s intelligence community must request approval from a top-secret court (the FISA court) to be able to legally place an individual under electronic surveillance. They must show that there is probable cause that the targets “are or may be” aligned with a terrorist organization with the purpose of carrying out acts of terrorism against […]

sex taboo

We cannot talk about sex in polite company. Rulers and law makers throughout history, around the world, including here and now, prohibit all sorts of sexual conduct among the non-politically-connected in their typical “Do as we say; not as we do” fashion. There are special forces in most large police agencies devoted to sex – that is, arresting those whose appetites run counter to the political rules. Sex outside a theoretical norm is distasteful, prurient, embarrassing, not to mention disastrous if caught by public exposure or police intervention. Yet most of it, no matter how outlandish it seems to any of us individually, is actually quite normal. But we cannot talk about it, fight the Puritanical legislation against it or […]

victory in Idaho

VICTORY: Idaho Legislature Votes to Nullify Federal Gun Control All across the country, we’re seeing states begin to fight back against federal overreach. States are using nullification, a method of undermining federal law by preventing state resources to go towards its enforcement, as a way to effectively gut the unconstitutional measures passed by Congress. This is happening with policies like Obamacare, NDAA, and federal gun control. Idaho’s legislature just joined the fray to push back against future federal gun control measures by unanimously passing a bill that would prevent the state’s officers from going towards the enforcement of any measure that would disarm the citizenry. The bill, which contains an “emergency” provision that means it would go into effect immediately, […]

The Nuremberg Principle

from Zero Aggression Project It applies to crimes large and small The Nuremberg Trials established that . . . Legislation is not the same as law Legislation must be moral to be lawful “Government” actions that violate moral rules are criminal This applies not only to the large crimes committed by villains like the Nazis, but also to the smaller crimes committed by your own “government.” Whenever “the government” threatens or initiates force against innocent people, it violates the moral law, no matter what the legislative “law” may say. To show empathy for the victims of this criminality, start applying the Nuremberg Principle where you live. Share this idea using the social networking buttons at left. Join ZAP by subscribing […]

standing up from the bench

After decades of packing the benches with judges who Go Along with the administrations in power, having one slam them down on something this important is a wonderfully pleasant surprise. It is actually a bit courageous on the part of judge Kathleen Forrest. This certainly will not do her career any good, and carries some actual physical risk in an era of unrestrained police state power. While we do our best to not think about it much, we know that the NSA, CIA, IRS, DHS, FBI, ATF alphabet soup is illegally, unconstitutionally collecting data, planting evidence, SWAT-raiding “the wrong home”, disappearing people, “assisting” suicides, not to mention droning at will nearly anywhere in the world. Either Judge Forrest isn’t thinking […]
